James Hammond
Advisor, Ghana Component Lead, GIZ Support Programme to the AfCFTA
James is an international trade policy and quality infrastructure expert with over 11 years experience in Standardization, International Trade Agreements,Project Management, Trade Facilitation, International Relations, and AfCFTA . Currently supporting the implementation of the AfCFTA in Ghana, James previously coordinated the successful implementation of the West Africa Quality System Program Phase 3 in Ghana. He has extensive experience working with International Organizations such as World Trade Organisation (WTO), International Organisation for Standardization (ISO), UNIDO, AU – IBAR, African Regional Organisation for Standardization (ARSO), ACP-EU TBT Programme, USAID, Standards Alliance, International Trade Centre, UNCTAD Commonwealth Standards Network, European Committee for Standardization (CEN), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and ECOWAS. I have established professional networks in Ghana as well as ECOWAS and on the Continental level.
James also previously worked as an Information Scientist at the Ghana Standards Authority’s (National Standards Body) Standards Development Division. He has played significant roles as Technical Secretary responsible for drafting the Ghana National Standard for Standard Writers and the National Technical Secretary for Standards on Conformity Assessment.
He was the National Mirror Committee Secretary for ISO/IEC JTC 1 Information Technology Technical Committee which is the standards development environment where experts come together to develop worldwide Information and Communication Technology (ICT) standards for business and consumer application.
James Amissah Hammond has a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Studies from the University of Ghana, Legon. James has taken part in two ISO General Assemblies where decisions on International Organization for Standardization (ISO) International Standards are taken. James is a member of the ISOlutions User Group which is the group performing National, Regional and International standardization work using IT solutions hosted through ISO.
James is an Expert in Standardization and International Trade specifically with the World Trade Organization (WTO) Agreement on Technical barriers to Trade.
James also successfully coordinated the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) National Seminar on Energy Management Systems in 2013.James is also a member of the National Trade Facilitation Committee, the National SPS Committee for Ghana and has been working as the WTO/TBT National Enquiry Manager.
