Afua joined the Borderless Alliance in July 2013 as Advocacy and Program Advisor, working with both national, regional and international partners in the development and delivery of programmes and activities to improve regional trade and free movement of people. Borderless Alliance is an initiative of the West African private sector to promote the free movement of people and goods, by removing barriers to trade and transport through the simplification and harmonization of procedures. Therefore, it envisions a West Africa, where a truck can transport goods across the region quickly, efficiently and inexpensively, from Abidjan to Lagos or from Cotonou to Timbuktu.
Afua plans and coordinates activities of the Alliance with private and public sector stakeholders such as Shippers Authority and Chambers of Commerce of Ghana, Mali, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire. Benin, Togo as well as the Nigeria Export and Import Bank. Afua has overseen and provided technical assistance on a number of projects including the Abidjan Lagos Corridor Project and worked with donor partners such as USAID, AfDB, GIZ, World Bank and UKFCDO in delivering trade facilitation projects across a number of West African Countries.
Afua represents Borderless Alliance on Ghana’s National Trade Facilitations Committee and the National Road Transport and Transit Coordinating Committee contributing to national and regional policies and programmes on transit and trade facilitation.
Prior to joining the Alliance she worked with the West Africa Trade Hub’s Transport component from August 2008 – June 2013 as transport specialist contributing to improving transport and transit regulations across west Africa.
Afua also has eight years of experience in the private sector transport industry, working in a variety of roles in Maersk Ghana Limited including customer service, logistics, exception handling and streamlining of processes and procedures to enhance service delivery. Ms. Eshun holds an MBA from the University of Ghana, Legon and is also a Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (London).
