Intra-Africa Trade Finance

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) has created unprecedented opportunities for businesses and governments to expand intra-African trade. Yet, financing cross-border transactions within Africa remains a significant challenge due to currency convertibility risks, limited access to trade finance instruments, and regulatory complexities. Development banks and institutions such as Afreximbank play a critical role in bridging these gaps, but professionals across the continent need specialized knowledge to leverage these mechanisms effectively.

This course responds to that need by equipping participants with practical insights into trade finance instruments, structured commodity finance, and successful case studies, thereby strengthening their ability to facilitate and grow intra-African trade.

By the end of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and apply key regional trade finance instruments to support cross-border transactions.
  • Assess and manage currency and convertibility risks unique to African markets.
  • Understand the role of development banks and Afreximbank in promoting intra-African trade.
  • Apply structured commodity finance techniques to enhance trade flows.
  • Analyze case studies of successful cross-border trade deals to extract lessons and best practices.
